On Wednesday, September 2, 2009, We Are All Brooklyn (WAAB), a coalition of more than 75 community and faith based organizations, in cooperation with the Brooklyn Cyclones, will host “Diversity Night with the Brooklyn Cyclones” at KeySpan Park in Coney Island. Honoring the Independence Community Foundation for their long standing support of the WAAB Fellowship. In addition, WAAB will pay special tribute to the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Assistant Commissioner Fred Kreizman of the Mayor’s Community Assistance Unit, and Zeinab Eyega, Executive Director of Sauti Yetu Center for African Women, Inc. for their service to Brooklyn and its diversity. African Voices presents: 12th Annual Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series - Honoring our Roots and Family Ties. The festival will address the important role films have played in reflecting the lives and heritages of people of African descent. From Alex Haley’s historic Roots to Maya Angelou’s Down in the Delta and John Singleton’s Boyz n the Hood, filmmakers have celebrated the strength of the family ties that have preserved this culture and identity throughout history.
