If you’re biking to the event from further afield Transportation Alternatives will be offering free group rides to and from Summer Streets from neighborhoods around the City. Or if you need a bike you can pick up one of 150+ bright orange loaner bikes offered by the Dutch government as part of the NY400 program. Of course everyone is also welcome to walk, jog, roller blade or just hang out too. These are your streets, and this is your chance to play. Summer Streets gives everyone a chance to partake in summertime fun and merriment without having to spend a single penny. So whether you’re Cycling, Walking, Running, Hopping, Skipping, or just resting and relaxing with friends and families, come out and enjoy Summer Streets and see your streets in a whole new way. The organizing agency for Summer Streets is the New York City Department of Transportation.

We are looking for men and women ages 18 and older to become part of the 2010 Pledge Class of our newly forming fraternity, which is a part of The 1City Youth Project - www.1cityyouth.org

Recruitment for pledges begins in August and ends on October 1, 2009.

As a pledge, you must score 116 points in order to become an member and you can remain a member for as long as you like. Points are scored by answering email, attending meetings and participating in community service events. That is all! There are no other requirements and you have until May 1, 2010 to earn 116 points.

Some of our community service projects include: working in a soup kitchen; decorating bedrooms for disabled children; preparing care packages for families in crisis and mentoring young children.

IN BATTLE FOR BROOKLYN’S STRONGEST ARM!
WHITE CASTLE 'KINGSBORO' ARM WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD ON AUGUST 30, 2009

Coney Island, NY. July 8, 2009. The Brighton Neighborhood Association and New York Arm Wrestling Association have joined forces to present the 27th Annual Kingsboro Arm Wrestling Championships in conjunction with the 33rd Annual Brighton Jubilee Festival to be held on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 1002 Coney Island Ave and Brighton Beach Avenue off 11th Street Brooklyn, NY 11235 -- Over 100 men and women will compete for Brooklyn’s prestigious Kingsboro Golden Arm Wrestling Championship titles and the overall male and female winners will be crowned Brooklyn’s Strongest Arm and receive a $100 MVP cash prize. Spectators are invited to watch for free. Contestants should register and weigh-in between 9 a.m. and before 12:15 p.m. as the event begins at 12:30 p.m. sharp and the final matches start at 3:30 p.m. in front of a live captive audience. Entry fee is $20 for amateurs and $25 for pros and there are male and female categories divided into twelve weight classes. The Proud Sponsor is White Castle.

The Brooklyn Kingsboro Arm Wrestling Awards will be given to first, second and third place winners will qualify to compete at the 32nd Annual Empire State 'Golden Arm' Tournament of Champions Final to be held at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on November 12, 2009. There are no residency requirements.

Pat Singer the Executive Director and founder of the Brighton Neighborhood Association said, “We are very excited to celebrate the 27th Anniversary of the popular Kingsboro Arm Wrestling Championships at the 33rd Brighton Jubilee Festival. Spectators have opportunity to watch strong men and women compete for the Brooklyn’s Strongest Arm Wrestling Titles while strolling through the one of the oldest and largest festivals in Brooklyn.

The New York 'Golden Arm' Series consists of up to six preliminary championships and a final. Qualifying events are held in each of the five NYC Boroughs, Long Island, and upstate New York. September events include the 32nd Annual Queensboro Championships on Sept. 20, 2009 at the Queens County Fair in Floral Park, Queens.
