THE FOOD OBSTRUCTIONS II In 1967 Jorgen Leth made a 12 minute film, “The Perfect Human.” In 2003 Lars von Trier challenged Leth, his mentor, to remake the film with obstructions that would complicate its production. The resulting film was named “The Five Obstructions.” On December 6, 2009 the Food Obstructionists challenge their mentors and fellow culinary artists to a similar challenge, The Food Obstructions II. Fifteen contestants will be accepted to make a dish of their own originality. In the spirit of the film, there are five obstructions to whatever type of dish they choose to make: Must contain rosemary; Cannot contain butter; Must contain an ingredient beginning with “K;” Must contain an ingredient grown or produced in Brooklyn; Must contain an ingredient with seeds when raw. Attendees will pay $5 for all there is to sample. Every person can then complete a ballot choosing their favorite five dishes. The scoring of the dishes will be weighted such that the best dish receives five points, the second four, etc. To enter as a contestant, please send an email to thefoodobstructions@gmail.com.
