Block Institute’s First Brightest Star Awards
Recognizing Achievements by People with Developmental Disabilities

Miss New York and New York Media to Participate as Judges in Honoring Those with Special Needs

On Saturday, November 14, 2009, Block Institute will be hosting the first annual Brightest Star Awards Gala at 376 Bay 44th Street, Brooklyn from 7:30 pm. – 10:00 pm.

The Block Institute’s Brightest Star awards are given in recognition of significant and extraordinary talents and achievements made by ten individuals (men and women, ages 18+) who have developmental disabilities. There will be winners for ten categories and out of that ten, one will be crowned the Brightest Star. The categories are for spirit, leadership, wellness, talent, independence, mastery, fellowship, citizenship, growth and community.

•Julie Revelant, Deputy Editor, NY Metro Parents
•Jenny Costa, Mix Show DJ on WKTU

Tickets can be reserved for a donation of $20 each.

Block Institute provides educational services to children and adults with special needs such as: cerebral palsy, global developmental delays, cognitive delays, traumatic brain injury, medically fragile and/or medically involved. Block Institute is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people, primarily the developmentally disabled and their families.

From Manhattan - Brooklyn Bridge or Manhattan Bridge (East) to Brooklyn Queens Expressway - I-278 (South) to Belt Parkway (East). Belt Parkway (East) to Exit 5 - Bay Parkway. Continue on service road .6 miles (Name changes to Shore Parkway) to Bay 44th Street. Right turn - Block Institute is right off the corner.

B or Q to Ave. J. Take B6 bus toward Shore Pkwy. Stop is Shore Pkwy and 26th Ave. Walk one block on Shore Pkwy east to Bay 44th Right Turn - Block Institute is right off the corner.
D to 25th Ave. Take U bus to last stop (Harway Ave.) Walk to Cropsey Ave. then to 26th avenue, make right on 26th, then make left on Shore Pkwy. Walk one block Bay 44th Right Turn - Block Institute is right off the corner.

This unique showcase features actors competing against each other through a series of challenges and boot camp like exercises on the Kumble stage for prizes and a possible leading role in a short film designed, created and written just for them.
