For the past 10 years, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) After School Program at P.S. 153 has provided unique educational programming for the students in the Homecrest neighborhood of Brooklyn. The CPC has proven a deep commitment to such a diverse and culturally-rich community, with goals to educate and expand young minds, encourage growth, develop creativity, support for immigrant families, celebrate different cultures, and strengthen community ties. To celebrate our 10th Year Anniversary, we present the great diversity of dance around the world. The Gala will have our all time favorite Beatles Medley. Not only that, the extraordinary Hip Hop Dance, Locking Dance, Korean Dance, Indian Dance and Chinese Dance will bring you a memorable evening.

The Bushwick Workforce Resource Center (BWRC) serves as an extension of Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) Thornton Street location, (our main job training center for youth and adults) and it will provide greater access to our educational, job training and employment services at a time when demand for such services are on the rise due to the economy.

Company Profile:
Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) was founded in 1984 by the late Sister Mary Franciscus, RSM, to serve the at-risk, out-of-school, and unemployed youth of Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Over the next decade, OBT established innovative employment and training strategies for young people and instituted new programs including support services for the newly employed, adult job training and daytime and evening literacy classes. Due to the success of its programs, OBT opened a second full-service site in 2001, OBT North, to serve residents of Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Williamsburg in response to a lack of needed services in these communities.

On Saturday, May 30th, New York Congregational Nursing Center (NYCNC) will host volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Brooklyn, Plymouth Congregational Church of the Pilgrims, and community members for its” 7th Annual Intergenerational Day of Gardening. Volunteers of all ages will join together to create a landscape of love and legacy for the residents of NYCNC. Volunteers will clean, prune and plant gardens of herbs, vegetables and flowers. The campus becomes alive with the vibrant colors of nature. Residents assist with the planting or railing flower boxes and planters that adorn the walkway and patio of the Facility. Vincas, petunias, and impatiens as well as tomatoes, squash and string beans become the canvas of the campus. Residents, staff and family become in tune to the wonders of nature.
The Intergenerational Day of Gardening is a special occasion for volunteers from the community and residents, staff, and family members of the Nursing Center to share their passion for gardening. Through horticulture the residents are able to create and nurture living things and link generations together. The participants in the Intergenerational Day of Gardening leave their legacy by beatifying the environment for the residents during the Spring and Summer months.

The Miss Brooklyn Scholarship Program is an official preliminary to the Miss New York and Miss America Pageants. The Miss America Organization celebrates young female scholars who are actively involved in their communities.
