Lung transplant fundraising event at Kumble Theater at LIU (1 University Plaza) honoring a LaGuardia H.S. alumnus, Robert Lewis: cocktail reception/silent auction/show, featuring special guests Tony Award-winning star Melba Moore, Michael K. Williams (HBO's Boardwalk Empire) and stage & screen diva Valarie Pettiford ('Big Dee Dee' from UPN's Half & Half). Tribute performances by other LaGuardia (Fame) HS alum who are now principal dancers and actors on Broadway and in Hollywood. Comedy With A Purpose, a stand-up benefit for breast cancer, comes to the historic Brooklyn Masonic Temple. A lineup of top New York stand-up comics includes Cory Fernandez of HBO's Def Comedy Jam, Hadiyah Robinson of BET's The Mo'Nique Show, Frantz Casseus of HBO's P. Diddy's Bad Boys of Comedy and Kyle Grooms of Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central. Jamie Roberts, who's been seen on MTV, hosts the show. Proceeds benefit Pink S.H.O.E.S. Join Molly M. Weiss for a night of powerful female voices that range from spoken word, poetry, monologues and one-acts, to music and song. Burlesque Poetry is a part of a larger series entitled The Eden Project, where sound and movement are merged through the use of paint and canvas as a medium for dancers to register their motions and steps while creating a large-scale painting and video installation piece.
