BALANCE DANCE THEATER 2008 Genre: Dance Obediah Wright in collaboration with Kumble Theater Balance Dance Theater will Triumphantly return to Kumble Theater to present three exciting performances of celebration as well as new work choreographed by its founder and director, Obediah Wright. Hold onto your seats, the superstars from East Coast Professional Wrestling will be invading St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday night, October 18th. The youth/sports programs will be holding the second of a series of fundraisers with ECPW to support their youth group and sports program as well as other parish programs. ECPW’s mission statement is “to provide good, clean, fun entertainment for the entire family” says founder Gino Caruso. It is a form of entertainment that strays away from what is seen in on television, something you could bring anyone from your 5 year old to your grandfather to and a good time would be had by all, which is why Maduri and Biella believed it was the perfect fit for the communities children and their families. ECPW has raised tens of thousands of dollars for organizations such as St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Suffern High School, and many local PAL’s and sports programs. The event will feature many of ECPW’s hottest up and coming superstars such as Tony Biella, Ryan Roxbury, Jason Static, TJ Masters, Jake Saint, Timothy Plazma, Prince Akkanatan and The Creeper as well as WWE Legend and Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik and WWE legends Kamala and Spike Dudley. Hundreds of children will be treated to hay rides, games, sack races, face painting, music, dancing, and pumpkin decorating - and it's all FREE. The event kicks off at 12 noon and runs until 3:30 PM on the park's Great Lawn at Dekalb Avenue and Washington Park. The festival opens with The Great PUPkin a wild costume contest for dogs and their owners co-sponsored by Fort Greene PUPS, a local dog-owners organization, and closes with a popular kid's costume contest and parade. The festival is organized and produced by volunteer members of the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to the restoration and upkeep of historic Fort Greene Park. The event is sponsored and supported by local businesses, organizations and individuals. Fort Greene Park is located in Brooklyn, New York, on a hill overlooking Wallabout Bay and downtown Brooklyn. Bounded by DeKalb Avenue, Washington Park, Myrtle Avenue, and St. Edwards Street, the historic park is home to tennis courts and playgrounds, and is host to events such as concerts, poetry readings, and other civic gatherings. The thirty-acre park is both a popular neighborhood location and a place of national importance. Fort Greene Park is the site of a Revolutionary War fort and the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument, the Stamford White-designed column dedicated in 1908 as a memorial to the 11,000 prisoners of war who perished on British Prison Ships in Wallabout Bay during the American Revolution. 2008 marks the Centennial of the dedication of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument, and a grand re-dedication celebration is planned for the weekend of November 15, 2008. | ||||||||||||||
