On Wednesday, February 8, 2012, the We Are All Brooklyn Community Forum, From Fear and Hate to HOPE: Getting There Together began a conversation surrounding the climate of fear and hate that permeates the borough. The forum was both productive and inspiring, and we are looking forward to continuing the work that began that day.

As such, we have organized a follow-up forum specifically for the Faith & Spirituality working group. The forum will be held on May 23, 2012 and will provide an opportunity for your group to have a more in-depth, focused conversation and outline the next steps for the faith community in Brooklyn. You can register for the forum by visiting http://tinyurl.com/WAABfaithforum

Restoration's Center for Arts and Culture is excited to present two new exhibitions in the Skylight Gallery: Cultural Warriors: Tribute to the East and Emerging Masters.
Cultural Warriors: Tribute to the East will examine the amazing history and accomplishments of the fabled East Cultural Center. Founded in 1969 by Jitu Weusi and the African Students Association, the East was a cultural and educational center for people of African ancestry. For many of today's educational, cultural and legislative leaders, it was the epicenter in Brooklyn of the 1969 civil rights and cultural movement sweeping the nation. The exhibition will display ephemera and photos by Basir McChawi, Ogundipe Fayomi, and Mensah Wali.

Emerging Masters will pay homage to three young artists who are growing in stature and recognition and to the lasting power, influence and presence of African cultural iconography in art. The show includes digital photographic images capturing African rituals in action, by William Jones, colorful paintings by urban cubist Bryan Masud, and abstract paintings expressing life experiences by Aleathia Brown.

Artist Talk: Saturday April 25, 2009 2PM-4PM Aleathia Brown, William Jones and Masud
